My name is Prathiba Prabhakaran. I was born in Jalakandapuram — a small weaving town in Salem district, Tamil Nadu, where the rhythm of the loom is as ordinary as birdsong. My father ran the business, and our home never knew silence — the rolling machines, the shuttle, the threads being prepared before meeting the loom — it was all just life.

My mother still laughs when she tells people: "She slept the deepest whenever she heard the rolling machine." That sound, which prepares the thread before it enters the loom — that was my lullaby.

I grew up watching a saree come alive from the very beginning. Thread being dyed. Patterns being set. The loom working hour by hour. And finally — a saree. Something a woman would wear on the most important day of her life. I saw all of it, under one roof, in my own home.

That connection never left me. Today I live in Germany — far from Jalakandapuram, but never far from what it gave me. I started Prahi with one purpose: to carry this pride, this craft, this deeply Indian tradition — and bring it honestly to Europe. Not as a product. As a story with a thread running through it.

With my family by my side — the same family that has lived and breathed this craft for generations — I personally curate and bring you each saree. Sarees. Kids' wear. Menswear. Jewellery. Every piece chosen so your whole family can flaunt your tradition together.
